a co-investment platform for your personal connections
Throughout my experiences and travels, I have met a lot of people, a few have become friends. Over many years, I have developed friendships with the dreamers, doers, travelers, decision makers, visionaries and mostly entrepreneurs and investors. These new friends could be split into 2 categories, the “builders”and the “transactionals”. Many want to bring their big ideas to life, others want to buy or sell an amazing opportunity.
I made plenty of personal connections. We all do. We all know successful people. We just never do business together. There’s never that right opportunity. So you don't ask for help, in fact "you don't want to burn that one shot".
During my journey, it became very clear to me that (at first) most of these new projects sounded fun...but I couldn’t see a way of making money. Sure, the ride would have been entertaining. Yet I couldn’t justify it as an investment, neither from a monetary perspective nor from a time perspective. If I gave any money, I saw it as a way to learn something new, a ‘real-life educational experience’ and sometimes it was to support a friend. It didn’t make sense to me from an investment perspective. My analytical brain needs numbers…and there are no mathematical/financial model and no number to back any new venture.
Then, a few years later, I would look back at the ventures that I passed on…and many were florishing, doing extremely well. I was used to the traditional (and boring) activities. I was so used to the traditional “sure thing” that I missed a lot of fun and profitable projects. Today, I want to find a way to analytically gauge these opportunities, and share my risks with Friends & Family, I can’t bear it all alone.
Opportunities in Frontier Markets receive pretty much the same treatment as most innovative ideas…these are extremely risky! While many exciting things were happening in Africa, South East Asia, the Middle East or Latin America…no major institution wanted to take a bet. But many of my friends did. And they financially and humanly did fantastic.
So who can make things happen for you?
Your Friends & Family ! The true believers and the doers, the very same individuals among our personal connections who did great things in their lives. They know how to build, finance, scale and execute major ideas and business ventures. They can do something for us. And we all have those friends & family members who have a small portion of their assets that can back these passionate entrepreneurs and their ventures. We all have those friends & family members who have a direct professional experience. Many can become great advisors and open doors for us. Doors that we wouldn't even know they existed.
Again, we all have those personal connections, but we never had the right deal to show them, we never had the right opportunity that legitimized us asking for their help. I hope this platform will get us closer to engaging with our personal connections for our personal and collective success.
I will be agnostic about what I show you.I will just show all the deals which are emerging from our friendship group. I will not judge them, I will not advise, I will assess them for my own personal interest and would be happy to share my thoughts. I will try to build that ‘numbers and characteristics’ database that could help us assess ideas.
I want to further develop this platform so that you can also have your own private page to share your own opportunities with your own network of Friends & Family.
99% of these opportunities won’t be directly relevant to you.
All opportunities will represent this diverse friendship group. If you end up supporting an idea or a transaction, please get your firm, lawyer, tax professional, financial advisor, bank, whoever is needed to do it the right way.
Enjoy and if you want to share anything with my group of Friends & Family, aka 'the Group', let me know.
Bader

We believe that personal connections should be leveraged more efficiently. We all have those contacts who could support our ventures, yet, are you really tapping into this resource? Is it transparent, consistent and are you getting the right feedback ? 'Friends & Family Ventures' will become a platform that combines your network of friends, family, opportunities, feedback, comments & activities, interests, portfolio of projects, a dashboard for your watchlist; and one single NDA to view all the projects which are shared with you. We want to build a database of market sizes, valuations and comparables.
What you do next is up to you.
